To help you to discover the secrets of the forest and local area, we  offer a variety of tours within Heliconias Lodge and Rainforest, Bijagua, Rio Celeste and Tenorio Volcano National Park and further field. We have numerous bilingual naturalist guides trained in ornithology, botany and ecology. In addition, our guides are local people who are familiar and passionate about the area. They also have training in first aid procedures and their first concern is for your safety and welfare. For current prices and bookings please contact us.

Tour prices and Bookings:

Prices vary depending on the tour, number of people and whether transport and food is included.  For accurate prices please send us an e-mail or call us. Tours can be booked before you arrive or once you are at the lodge (subject to availability). We recommend that you bring sturdy comfortable walking shoes, raincoat, long pants, warm clothes, insect repellent, a bottle of water, binoculars and a camera on our tours.

The best of National Park Tenorio Volcano and Rio Celeste
Rio Celeste is located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park and is famous for its bright blue waters, hot springs, and spectacular waterfall. Our guides will show you the best that the National Park and Rio Celeste have to offer. An easy way to discover the Tenorio Volcano National Park and the Rio Celeste is to get there and come back by car.  The hike will be the same as in the above option. You can travel in your own car, or a taxi can be booked from Heliconias Lodge and Rainforest.

Horseback Tour: Rio Celeste

Begin your day with a horseback ride through the spectacular green countryside surrounding Bijagua to the entrance of the Tenorio Volcano National Park.  There, you will experience a hike which will let you discover the amazing blue river and its impressive waterfall, blue lagoon and natural hot springs. You will be transported back to Heliconias Lodge and Rainforest by car. Duration:  7 Hours. Level of Difficulty:  Medium

The Heliconias Lodge Rainforest Suspension Bridges Tour
A guided tour through our suspension bridges trail will bring you closer to the wonderful biodiversity of the rainforest.  Three canopy level bridges will allow you to   experience     safely the great complexity of the canopy.  Our guides will teach you many things about the forest and they will help you to identify plants, birds and other wildlife.    For  earlybirds, a trip at sunrise is offered which will allow you to observe many birds who are most active in the morning.  Being in the rainforest as it wakes up is a dazzling     experience you will not forget.

The Laguna Danta Tour
Laguna Danta is an extinct crater formed by the peak of Montezuma which was created by the Tenorio Volcano.  The rainwater that fills the crater transforms it into a beautiful lagoon. “Danta” means tapir, and the lagoon is named after the tapirs that live in this region.  The mystic tapir is the largest Costa Rican mammal and is very revered by our indigenous people.  To reach the lagoon, you will ascend a 2 hour trail in the mountain within a beautiful tropical cloud forest.  If you are lucky you may see footprints of this mysterious creature or you may even see the tapir itself.

The Nocturnal Rainforest Tour
The night tour is the best way to take a different look at the rainforest.  Many creatures in the rainforest are more active at night and some are best seen after dark night due to their bioluminescence.  At night, small details of the rainforest become emphasized, and the unique sounds and smells of the forest become more distinct.  Our guides will lead you on our trails and help you to appreciate the rainforest in a way you have never experienced before.

The Ornithological Tour
Over 300 species of birds live in and around Heliconias Lodge and Rainforest, making this location a paradise for birders. Five five species of toucans and eighteen species of hummingbirds as well as theOrnate Hawk Eagle,  Rofous-vented Ground Cuckoo and Tody Motmot can be found.  Walk on our trails and let our specialized expert naturalist guides show you where to look and to help you identify birds both common and exotic. You will discover a variety of birds in a range of habitats, and become familiar with their behaviors, songs and beauty.
